Woke up at 6AM (but feeling like I didn't sleep enough) cleaned and packed up the bike and met the guys at 7AM for breakfast. At 8AM we were about ready to go but Mel & Kevin decided to stay and leave later on their own. They really looked tired. We started heading to Kamloops and 30 minutes into the ride it started pouring again. I was soaked, cranky and tired after not sleeping enough the night before. I managed to keep up with Will, Scott and Ben for some part but at the very end I was riding alone. I enjoyed riding alone and gave me lots of time to think about my trip and what did I wanted to make out of it. For the last 35Km I pulled out my ipod and rode while listening to Pearl Jam and Peter Gabriel. (earbuds only on my right ear) Made it to Kamloops at 2:45 after riding 92Km with tons of rain. I was exhausted and miserable. Met with the guys at a Chez-Cora for lunch and as soon as I sat down the waitress told me I should hurry up because they'd be closing at 3Pm, so 10 minutes to decide what to eat and eat it!
I wanted to enjoy more of each city and since I am riding across Canada and not racing across Canada a desicion had to be made so I told the guys I'd be staying in Kamloops that day and leaving the pack. I could see that they were sad (especially Will since we were planning on riding together to Ontario) and I was sad myself but the reality is that I had 2 more days of riding since I have started in Victoria and my body was asking for a rest day, specially after that misserable rainy day.
We hugged each other goodbye and almost cried, they paid for my half eaten lunch (thank guys) and we wave each other goodbye.
We found a Motel along the Trans-Canada (the Accadian Inn) and got 2 rooms by 7PM. We did laundry (since all my clothes got wet) and agreed about a 9AM start with an easy 65Km ride to Chase. There's a Hi-Hostel close to Chase and it was an affordable option to start lowering the costs of my trip. I unpacked all the panniers and re-do them in the morning to re-distribute weight. Updated the blog and slept for 8-9 hours.
The bad news of the day: My ipod got wet and dies on me today...this sucks since I won't have my favourite music with me to ride along...I guess I'll have to buy another one when I get back to Toronto. It's the bummer....man!
